01
Start with the question, not the acronym
“GEO” is often presented as a replacement for SEO. Google’s own guidance says its generative features still depend on core Search systems. A sound approach therefore begins with the customer’s question and a page that answers it completely.
Choose subjects that sit inside your real expertise. Add first-hand explanations, decisions, examples or process details that a generic summary cannot provide.
- Define the audience and decision the page supports
- Answer the main question near the top
- Explain trade-offs and limits
- Give the reader a sensible next step
02
Make the source easy to understand
Clear authorship, accurate dates and descriptive headings help readers judge a page. Cite primary sources for technical or legal claims. Structured data can describe an article, but it cannot compensate for weak content or guarantee inclusion in an AI answer.
Keep the important answer in normal page content. Do not hide the core information behind a click, animation or form.
- Use one canonical URL
- Keep mobile and desktop content equivalent
- Link related guides using descriptive wording
- Update the page only when the content changes
03
Measure outcomes, not mentions alone
Search Console can show queries, pages, impressions and clicks. Analytics can show what visitors do after landing. Review both. A mention in an AI response is not valuable if it sends the wrong audience or produces no useful action.
Compare groups of related pages over several weeks. Avoid reacting to one day of movement or rewriting pages solely to appear fresh.
- Track qualified enquiries or other business actions
- Record substantive updates
- Review query intent, not just total impressions
- Remove duplicate or unsupported content
04
A practical publishing check
Before publishing, ask whether the page would still help a customer who arrived directly rather than through a search engine. If the answer is no, the page needs more substance.
For help connecting content, technical SEO and measurement, review our SEO services or request an initial site review.
- Is the advice based on real knowledge?
- Can every factual claim be checked?
- Does the title accurately describe the page?
- Is the next action clear but not manipulative?
